On the Agora

My PhD thesis (2012) explored the changing use of the Greek agora in Hellenistic and Roman times. I have reworked the first part of my thesis as a monograph entitled “On the Agora :  The Evolution of a Public Space in Hellenistic and Roman Greece (c. 323 BC – 267 AD)” which was published by Brill at the start of 2017.

The book traces the changing design and function of the main public space of Greek cities from the period of the death of Alexander, through the Roman conquest of Greece and up to the crisis of the Roman Empire in the third century AD.

I am currently working on rewriting the second part of the thesis as a separate monograph which explores how the agora functioned as an arena in which relations of power were determined.
